The group investigates / studies all aspects of Radio in relation to communications and broadcasting and the equipment used past and present.
Unlike CB or using a walkie-talkie you need a Licence to operate an Amateur Radio Transmitter from your home, car or boat. The Group's aim is to introduce members to the world of Amateur Radio and progress them via a basic exam to obtain a Licence and the all-important personal call sign.
It should be said that there are two Amateur Radio Clubs which cover the Wokingham Area, the Bracknell Amateur Radio Club - BARC, and the Reading and District Amateur Radio Club- RADARC.
However the u3a group is aimed at introducing new comers to Amateur Radio and perhaps those who had an interest when younger and need to make a fresh start to get up to speed again.
For more details please contact the convener if you are already a Wokingham u3a member. If you are not already a Wokingham u3a member you will need to use the contact form on the Wokingahm u3a Website.
