This page aims to provide useful information about cultural or educational activities and events in and around Wokingham that may be of interest to our members. It's not for u3a events or news - these are covered elsewhere on the website. General

  • Wokingham Town Council - The Town Council website has a wealth of information. Specific sections include: Events (local events organised by the council - for example: Party in the Park, Sunny Saturdays, Remembrance Sunday parade), Allotments, Parks, Weddings (at Wokingham Town Hall), Wokingham History and virtual museum. The Council runs an information centre in the Town Hall, which is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only between 10 & 2pm. 
  • Love Wokingham - This site offers loads of information about our town - including sections on Shopping & Business, Food & Drink, Activities & Clubs, History, Town Information and Charities. There is also a section for Events - including music, comedy nights, shows, quizzes and food/drink events at local establishments.
  • Wokingham Borough Council - This is the place to access information about all the council services - for example benefits, care and support, transport, rubbish and recycling, plus information about planning and development.   • The Wokingham Society - This society works to protect Wokingham town's past, present and future - e.g. encouraging the conservation of the character and traditions of Wokingham as an historic market town and promoting study of the history of Wokingham and interest in our heritage.

Arts & Entertainment

  • Wokingham Festival - A  three-day music festival that takes place each August bank holiday weekend in Cantley Park. It is run by a group of volunteers and features an exciting array of artists to entertain you, as well as great food & drink, a range of family entertainment, trade stalls, and all round fun.
  • Wokingham Film Society - A not-for-profit community cinema, run by a group of volunteers, and showing a broad range of films at The Whitty Theatre in Wokingham. Showings are open to all, but the society also operates a Membership Scheme with discounted tickets and added benefits.
  • Wokingham Music Club - "The home of live music in Wokingham". The club features locally and nationally acclaimed artists, including top quality tribute bands, performing at local venues: The Whitty Theatre, The Royal British Legion Club Winnersh and Emmbrook Sports & Social.
  • Wokingham Theatre - A thriving community theatre in Cantley Park, presenting eight major productions a year, alongside Youth Theatre productions, short runs of experimental productions, evenings of new writing, and a wide range of theatrical skills training and workshops. The theatre also hosts Wokingham Lions Club Comedy Nights, in support of local charities. The theatre is staffed and managed entirely by volunteers.

Education, Useful Services and Volunteering

  • Adult Education Courses Wokingham Borough Connect offer a range of courses, including computer/digital skills and general skills to help people build their confidence and skills to get into volunteering.
  • WEA (Workers Education Authority) is a charity dedicated to bringing high quality, professional education into the heart of communities. The Wokingham Branch delivers friendly, accessible and enjoyable courses for adults from all walks of life (search by location to find Wokingham based courses at the Cornerstone, Norreys Avenue).
  • Free I.T. and Digital Help Sessions - These are offered at local libraries. Get help with any aspect of using your phone, laptop or tablet to navigate the online world.
  • Wokingham Volunteer Centre - This group works with community, voluntary and charitable groups across the borough, to place and support volunteers. If you are looking for a new volunteering opportunity, check out their volunteer portal to see current vacancies.
  • The Link Visiting Scheme - This organisation brings vital, life-enhancing social connections to older people in Wokingham Borough. They are looking for volunteers to give some of their time regularly to make isolated older people in their community feel connected and valued, and you can also request support via their website.
  • Wokingham Repair Café - We have members of Wokingham u3a who have become very much part of the new Wokingham Repair Café, which started up in April at All Saints Church, offering a free service to help repair any manner of broken items. While waiting, you can get a drink at the café and enjoy a chat. Visit their website if you are interested in taking advantage of the service - or perhaps volunteering to help.
