Books B started in 1998 and over the years members have read books by a wide variety of authors. Each October we start to recommend the books we would like to read the following year and a list is (democratically) compiled by the year end. These are mostly modern novels, with the occasional classic, biography or non-fiction book. Members take turns to introduce the book of the month, telling us a bit about the author and any interesting reviews they have come across. It is very rare that every member likes the book so we have some spirited discussions. Hearing the views of others is always illuminating and adds greatly to our enjoyment. We each take it in turn to give our opinion before a more general discussion. Our meetings are usually held at the home of the convenor in Wokingham, but occasionally hosted by other group members and, after discussing the book, we enjoy refreshments and a social chat. In December, rather than a specific book, we generally have a "what I have enjoyed reading in the past year" session, which often introduces us to new authors.
