History Of Buildings

 

History of Buildings was  formed in March 2012.   We are a small group with a maximum of 10 members due to meeting room capacity. Our aim is to take a series of buildings and try to find out answers to the classic history questions of what, why, who and when in the building's evolution. Most historic buildings have experienced many  changes in form and detail during their lifespan. We try to find out who lived there, what did they do and how the building might have changed. We have made  the group very much "hands on" with emphasis on either  individuals or people working together carrying out onsite investigations, researching background  and then reporting back  for discussion and recording our findings.  Although we started our studies around Wokingham it is not necessarily our intention to confine our interest to the local area. We have made several visits around adjoining counties. We spent our first year on our first project examining the grade 2* listed building, "Littlecourt",  used as the WADE Centre on Reading Road.  Our article telling the story of this building  appeared in the Wokingham Paper on 8th April 2016 (a copy of which can be found here).  Another article on a notable local Berkshire architect, Joseph Morris, appeared in November 2016.
