The Military History Group was first formed in 1997 and has been continually in operation since then.
The Group meets at 2pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Victory hall in Farley Hall. Victory hall has ample parking which is normally available from 1:45 pm and free tea, coffee and biscuits are available before the meeting proper which normally starts at 2:10pm. A single payment of £10 is asked for for the year April to the following March to cover the costs of the venue, refreshments and guest speakers. Alternatively a payment of £2.00 per meeting may be made.
Our speakers are usually Group members, speaking on any topic of their
choice, although on rare occasions, guest speakers may be invited.
Each meeting there is usually a main presentation and one or more short additional topics. these can range from personal military experiences to identifying odd photos that have been found on the internet. Discussion of the speaker's chosen topic is encouraged and always
lively. Topics covered have ranged through the entire spectrum of world military history, from
Ancient Greek Admirals, American Civil War battles, Ottoman sieges, the
Wars of the Roses, through to the history of Portsmouth, the occupation
of the Netherlands and the activities of ENSA and the songs of WWI
& II. No historical or military stone is safe from being unturned!
