The Natural History & Environment Group was set up in August 2009. The group endeavours to encompass as many aspects of natural history and environmental issues as possible, with the aim of exploring a general understanding of the natural world, especially as it impacts us within the Wokingham area.
Activities include visiting sites of special interest, such as nature reserves and museums, or leisurely walks in the countryside looking at, and where possible identifying, the things of interest that we see (access to a pub, or at least a café for lunch after a walk, is often a welcome inclusion).
In the months when outdoor activities are less attractive (typically December to March) we meet in the afternoon at 2:00pm in a member's house and either listen to talks from members. We have an annual Christmas Quiz including relevant items from the year's news.
We plan to meet once each month (weather permitting for outdoor meetings), although August and January may be excluded and additional days may be added for particular events. At the time of writing the group has a waiting list, we call those on the waiting list 'associate' members as they are invited to all our outdoor events, which is the majority, and any events where we hire a hall. It's only meetings at people's homes, usually winter events, that are restricted.
