If you are looking for one of the trending recent tennis based sports with a silly name, a funny shape bat (or whatever they may be called) a hard plastic ball that makes a lot of noise then clearly short tennis is not what you are looking for. But if you just want to play tennis on a smaller court in the dry then short tennis is for you. Please contact the convenor about a free trial session.

Great game, excellent exercise and fun. Based on tennis we play this game all year round and mixed abilities can all enjoy the fun of long rallies. Games are played in a friendly way though individual points may be fiercely contested. Short Tennis is played on a badminton court with the net lowered. We play with junior tennis rackets and sponge balls, mostly in doubles format. The scoring is similar to normal tennis though we typically play just 4 games lasting about 10 minutes and then change partners and opponents; the score doesn't matter. Some members play nearly every week while others play far less frequently; all are welcome. The speed of the light sponge ball dies rapidly so unlike lawn tennis it is not a power game and mixed abilities can all contribute and enjoy the fun of long rallies - it is very good exercise. The ball can also take a lot of spin so keep watching it closely! New members are welcome and we have some spare rackets if you would like to come along and give it a try - please contact the convener; the first session is free. Some of our group have commented that they find short tennis much kinder on the joints compared to tennis or badminton - another reason to give it a go.
